Overdue pictures

Early morning conversation

This is probably funnier to me since it took place at 4am.

H: Mama, do you love thins?
R: Things?
H: Thins.
R: Thins?
H: THINS!
R: Thins?
H: Like fish have thins.
R: Oh - fins.
H: Yeah, thins. Do you love them?
R: Well, I love fish.
H: Do you love thins?
R: Yeah, I love fins. Do you?
H: No.

one more story - photos up soon

Danny: I think it would be nice for you to go a whole day without watching TV.
Henry: I think it would not. That is not an exciting (pronounced sighting) idea.

I cannot tell a lie...

Here's a recent exchange with Henry, while he was picking his nose (sorry, I'm a third-grader at heart)

Rachel: "Does your nose itch?"
Henry: "No, it just has a booger in it."

Dinosaur Jeopardy

Henry is really into dinosaurs these days. He walks and crawls around growling acting like different kinds of dinosaurs. Then he has us guess what kind of dinosaur he is. We have only about 5 choices - he is only 2. What I find hilarious is that if we guess the wrong one he laughs at us like we should have known. We guess Stegosaurus - No Mama, I'm a T-Rex - then he laughs at our dinosaur guessing incompetence. I might not ever be smart to him again!

No sleep for the weary

Henry is not a lover of sleep as we often mention. Here is a conversation we had about sleeping.

H: Mama, some people sleep and some people do not sleep. Right?
M: No Henry, everybody sleeps.
H: I do not sleep. I do not like to sleep. I like to play.

Trick or treat!

I think we may be setting a record for turn around time - here are some pictures from Halloween - we went around the neighborhood with our friends from PMO: Julian, Otis, and their parents Bryce and Shannon. Henry made a valiant effort to continually deplete his candy as he went along, but we did manage a small surplus at the end. Very fun...

And one of Alex for old times' sake

life, science and a birthday

We went to the Museum of Life and Science today for a party for Sadie's second birthday. We went a little early and enjoyed the museum beforehand. Fun was had by all - and it isn't really a party 'til somebody (Henry) gets drenched and takes his shirt off! Yee-haw!

State Fair

Here are a few pictures from our visit to the fair. We had a good time, but it was a little taxing to make sure our wildman didn't get lost in a sea of 100,000 people. Also, I got a 36 oz. sweet tea dumped on my lap - whee!

At the bottom is a video of the ride that might have been too fast for Henry - but he really liked it.

Do you want to be in pain? or no?

We, as parents, try to reason with Henry and try to point out consequences to an action. For instance - yesterday he was standing in the road on the dead end street beside our house. I asked him several times to get out of the road. Then I asked him if he would like to be hit by a car because that's what can happen when you stand in the road. He said he would and then I explained that he did not really want to because it would really hurt and Mommy and Jeff (a witness) would be sad if that happened. I occasionally use this technique when he is rough with Claudia - do you want to be pinched? do you want to be hit? etc. Later in the evening Henry used his own powers of reasoning with me - I had scolded him and feeling the dread of being scolded he changed the subject to asking me about my interest in being in pain.
Conversation as follows:
H: Do you want to be hit by a car?
Me: No - I do not.
H: Do you want to get hit by a wall?
Me: No - I do not.
H: Do you want to get hit by a house?
Me: No - I do not.
H: Do you want to be hit by a couch?
Me: No - I do not want to be hit by anything.
H: How bout this pillow? This pillow will make you better.

Dino-myte!

Judith, Bob, Rachel, Henry and I attended "Walking with Dinosaurs" last weekend in Winston-Salem, a pretty impressive show even though it should have more appropriately titled "Sitting in a coliseum with dinosaurs". Henry really enjoyed it and wasn't scared - the roaring was "just a little bit loud" - said Henry.

Blurry pictures (and videos if I can work it) below...

vintage threads

Claudia is wearing an outfit that was mine when I was a baby - it is 35 years old and the elastic is still good. Amazing!

Happy Birthday Frances!

Our baby cousin Frances turned one this week. Her party was full of little ones from 3 years to 8 months - it was baby chaos!

It's never too early to use alphabet flash cards - especially since she has such a long last name!
